Western New York Birding Resources.
WNYBIRDS Rare Bird Text Alert System.
This system will allow you to receive rare bird alert texts form anyone that sends them, as well as send your own if you happen to find a rare bird. Here is what you do:
Text: "subscribe wnybirds" to 41411.
It will text you a "Welcome message."
Text "wnybirds register ..." - Replace the ellipsis "..." with your name. No spaces. I would text: "wnybirds register RickBacher"
Save the number 41411 as: "WNYBIRDS"
You must type "wnybirds" before each rare bird alert you send. This is crucial. Texts will not go through the system without typing "wnybirds" first.
If I just discovered a Gyrfalcon eating an Ivory-billed Woodpecker while walking through Tifft Nature Preserve, I would text: "wnybirds Gyrfalcon currently being viewed at Tifft Nature Preserve near the North Blind."
While it is free to sign up and use, it does cost the creator of the system a lot money to run. Please consider donating to help keep this text system going at: http://www.keekeekerr.com/textalerts/support
Genesee Birds Email system.
This will sign you up to receive emails from all the other birders around Western New York. People use this system to share interesting sightings, daily observation, complete birding checklists, news or information pertaining to birds or their habitat, and also to pose questions about bird related things.
